Overview

The Guadalupe Centers Youth Development Program is a set of year-round programs aimed at providing the urban core youth with positive educational and enrichment activities. This programming includes:

Life Skills Workshops to promote healthy lifestyles at local middle schools

After school program providing tutoring and homework support

An academic and rigorous 7-week summer school including activities and field trips for elementary and middle school students

A range of recreational activities including coached sports

Afterschool Program

The goal of Guadalupe Center’s Afterschool Program is to provide a safe environment with caring adults as well as to provide supplemental education and cultural enrichment activities for students K-8 from 2:30 pm-6:00 pm. Offerings include age appropriate:

Arts and Crafts

Culturally centered projects

Community-based activities to include Trunk or Treat, Hot Summer Nights, Valentine’s Dance, Dia de los Muertos

Coach supervised sports including basketball, t-ball, baseball, soccer, and football

Students are provided with a nutritious snack at the start of each program day which includes a healthy variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. Participants are urged to sample new food items which are prepared daily by Guadalupe Centers culinary staff.

Not just a daycare, Guadalupe Centers provides a safe environment where students can engage with knowledgeable staff that have a passion for working with and mentoring students. Many of our staff went through the Guadalupe Schools and programs themselves and are committed to the children in our community.

Our staff strive to bring meaningful relationships with students and their families while welcoming them to the larger Guadalupe Centers family.

Summer School is scheduled to run from June 3rd to July 19th, with no instruction on June 19th, July 3rd and 4th

Paper applications will be available for pick up beginning April at Guadalupe Centers Youth Recreation building located at 2641 Belleview, KCMO. We do, however, encourage parents to enroll via online link for fastest processing.

Students are enrolled when staff receives all proper documentation. If there are any questions regarding an application, Summer School Staff will reach out for clarification. Otherwise, you can assume that your student is enrolled as long as info is received prior to the deadline.

The program is open to any students who reside within the boundaries of the KCMO School District. Parents must be able to show proof of address and make copies available upon request.

The community portion of Summer School will only be offered at our Westside location this year. Villa will not accept any students from outside the district.

2024 Theme: World’s Fair

During Guadalupe Centers Summer school students study several different locales; First grade will focus on their hometown, its history and professions while grades 2 through 8 will explore cultures around the world as they embark on a cultural journeys voyage. Program tourist will travel the globe from Egypt to Rome, Greece to Africa, and down through Latin America. While journaling their adventures, students will be immersed in rich literature and fluency practice.

Math focus during the summer aims to prepare students for their upcoming grade level by practicing daily the foundational skills needed to understand new concepts they will be introduced to upon returning to regular school.

There are also new and exciting opportunities for enrichment. Students will explore science, complete hands on experiment’s, create cultural art, be active in physical education, enjoy music, participate in cultural diverse book clubs, write poetry, journal, learn to play classic board games, and participate in dance classes.

The Summer program runs annually for 7 to 8 weeks, from 7:30am until 6:00pm at both Westside and Villa Guadalupe locations. The program is free of charge and accepts students who reside within the Missouri boundaries of the Kansas City Missouri school district. All morning instructions is taught by certified teachers and afternoon activities are planned and facilitated by experienced youth workers. There are exciting weekly field trips organized for participants and even a $100 cash stipend for those who qualify.
