“It’s been an honor and a privilege to be associated with Guadalupe Centers. Especially since it continues to involve everyone who is here and has been.”
Behind La Misión - Diane Rojas
Reaching a 40th work anniversary is no small feat. It comes with challenges, growth, and countless moments of dedication. For Diane Rojas, her four decades of service are fueled by a deep passion for community and a steadfast commitment to making a difference. Her 40-year journey with Guadalupe Centers, Inc. (GCI) is a true testament to her work ethic and heart for service.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to be associated with Guadalupe Centers,” Diane shares, “especially since it continues to involve everyone who is here and has been.”
Diane began her career at GCI in 1984 as a contractual case manager. After completing her contracted work, the team quickly recognized her impact and invited her to return as a full-time employee—an offer she gladly accepted, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment. What initially drew her to GCI was her interest in social services and community work. Having started in nursing school, caring for others was always a part of her life. “I’ve always been passionate about leveraging resources to assist in elevating families,” Diane says. “Advocacy for people, especially those in underserved communities, has always mattered to me.”
Throughout Diane’s tenure, GCI has grown and evolved in many ways. She is especially proud of the organization’s comprehensive services, the evolution of the Early Childhood Center, and workforce programs. One of the things she values most is the accessibility of services. “It’s a privilege to be associated with an organization that has such a critical mission,” she says.
During a surprise celebration honoring her 40th work anniversary, Diane was surrounded by teammates, board members, and former colleagues. She was also recognized with her own Proclamation Day, issued by the Kansas City mayor in honor of her achievements and dedication to community service. Reflecting on the moment, she shared, “It meant so much to me. While the recognition was special, the greatest affirmation comes from the families I’ve worked with and assisted. The thank-yous—that’s what’s most important to me.”
Diane’s long-standing commitment is mirrored by many colleagues who have served GCI for more than 20 years. Over the years, she has received heartfelt tokens of gratitude from participants, including photos, poems, food, and other meaningful keepsakes.
In 2024, Diane was promoted to Chief Program Officer, where she now oversees all core mission-based programs and services. Her professional background includes more than 40 years of social service experience, along with three years of nursing training at Research Medical Center and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Since joining GCI, she has become widely recognized throughout Kansas City for her expertise in health and human services programming serving the Latino community. In 2013, she received the Gladstone Elementary School “Hero of the Year” award, one of the most meaningful honors of her career.
Looking back, Diane encourages newcomers at GCI to take every opportunity and run with it. “No challenge is insurmountable,” she says, emphasizing confidence and responsibility. Outside of work, Diane enjoys spending time with family, visiting her elderly mother, and traveling to California to see her grandchildren.
We are grateful for Diane Rojas’ 40 years of dedication to Guadalupe Centers and look forward to many more years of impact together!
